This is a procedure where a small puncture is made in the wall that separates the upper chamber of the right and left heart so that a balloon can be passed safely through it into the left ventricle ( left lower chamber) to dilate the narrowed valve that separates the left atrium ( upper chamber ) and left ventricle. This is done under sedation with the help of transesophageal or trans thoracic echocardiogram along wirh X-Ray support. A procedure that has helped a lot of patients with Rheumatic heart disease with mitral stenosis which in general affects the people of economically weaker section. It s a boon for such patients.
